Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday, but it turns out senior missionaries find it one of the most gratifying holidays of their missions, whether they’re serving in the US or in a foreign country. Younger missionaries miss Thanksgiving turkey and pies, and it’s really fun to cook for them. In foreign countries, however, finding a turkey can be practically impossible, and a whole chicken may have to take its place.

Many cultures view the roles of men and women differently than we do in the Church, and this cultural difference can cause senior couples some discomfort as they interact with other cultures in and out of the United States. Be patient and courteous as you work with the men and women of other cultures. They may may feel insulted as we unwittingly impose our customs and expectations on them.

Clothing requirements vary from mission to mission. The general clothing guidelines that you receive with your original mission information packet are just that—general. Your mission will send you more specific clothing instructions that will meet the needs of your mission climate and culture.
